Pennies

I think everyone has a friend or two who “pinch pennies”. However, I once had a friend who would count his change - with his palms open - in front of the cashiers who provided the change. It was a troubling experience.

On the one hand, I was shocked at the behavior. I always thought it was a completely inappropriate and embarrassing attitude…even if it did become funny after a while. But who cares if you were shorted a nickel, a dime, or even a quarter?

However, I was equally surprised at how often errors were made by cashiers. I would estimate that about 1 out of every three times this “Robbinhell” character re-counted his change in front of a cashier, the change that was provided was incorrect. (I should note this particular character didn’t count his change “palms open” every time. He picked and chose his moments.)

Of course these errors, even cumulatively, are fairly insignificant. But it is also highlighted that errors made by cashiers are RARELY in the customer’s favor. (He would keep any errors in his favor - just for the record lol)

Anyhoooooo, the moral of the story is please don’t be that guy. Move on with your day. So what if you’re right? Now you’re in a bad mood, you’ve put a cashier in a bad mood, and you’ve traumatized a whole line up of people trying to buy milk at the local variety store with a giant episode - (and yes there were full episodes). Being right isn’t always right.
