This comic was inspired by a recent conversation I had with someone at a cocktail party. It was a Cannabis Company “start-up” and this start-up company was seeking seed money. (They didn’t have any assets, revenue, or market research.) They used their initial round of seed money to create a marketing campaign designed to gauge interest in their idea. (Basically, they used their initial round of funding to make a company logo, create some press releases, and pay for their drinking habit.) I thought it was funny at the time, but recently I found an ETF that uses robots to scour the internet for popular stocks which are mentioned in media and/or conversation. The ETF trades solely on public sentiment and popularity. Those two events together inspired this comic #33.
